UAH Cruises to 11-1 Win on Opening Day at Charger Park

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team started off the 2020 season at Charger Park on Friday with a dominant 11-1 victory over visiting Augusta in nonconference action. UAH improves to 1-0, while AU slips to 0-1.
 
Game-Changer
- The Chargers offense put up four extra-base hits in the first five innings – including two-run homers by Wes Anderson and Malave Bettinger – as the Blue & White cruised to an 11-1 win over the Jaguars on Friday.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Chargers amassed 15 hits against the Jaguars, as a total of six UAH players had two base knocks apiece on Friday.
- Anderson, Bettinger and Will Acuff each registered two base hits and two RBI in the victory.
- Dylan Murphy started for the Chargers and picked up the win to improve to 1-0, after tossing 5.0 innings with six strikeouts and one run allowed.
- Brooks Brophy and Justin Perrault combined for 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
- Zach Duvall also had a two-RBI performance, going 1-for-1 with one walk, two sac flies and one sac bunt.
- The Chargers drew five walks as a team, with five different players earning free passes.

Scoring Breakdown
- UAH went on the board first in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run off the bat of Anderson.
- Augusta cut the UAH lead in half with one run in the fourth, but Chargers countered with two runs in the bottom half to make it a 4-1 lead on a sac fly by Will Acuff and an RBI double by Garrett Bodine.
- Bettinger made it a 6-1 advantage in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer down the rightfield line, as UAH went on to add two more runs for a four-run rally in the frame.
- The Chargers went on to add two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth, which brought the game to its 11-1 final score.
 
Noteworthy
- Today's victory was the 294th victory for head coach Hunter Royer.
- UAH has won its season-opener in back-to-back years.
- The Chargers have one multi-homer game so far this season, after notching just two in 2019.
