Woods Scores 32, Late UAH Comeback Thwarted By Visiting Union

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell to Union on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall by a final score of 80-74 in a Gulf South Conference matchup. UAH dips to 2-2 (2-2 GSC), while UU rises to 3-1 (3-1 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-After trailing by as many as 23 points, the Chargers were able to pull within nine at 68-59 with 2:50 left in the contest, but a pair of 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to answer helped Union fight off the comeback and secure the win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Alexis Woods was an offensive force for the Chargers, going 13-for-22 from the floor on her way to scoring 32, and she made it another double-double as she also added 13 rebounds.
-For good measure, Woods also had a pair of assists and two steals.
-Joining Woods in double figures was Holly Harris who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to score 14.
-Thanks to an impressive 66.7 percent shooting mark in the fourth quarter that helped the hosts get back into the game, UAH finished the contest shooting 43.9 percent, while the Bulldogs connected on 54.8 percent of their attempts including 13 triples.
-Behind the strong showing from Woods, UAH dominated the inside game as it outscored the visitors 34-16 in the paint.
 
Inside the Flow
-UAH trailed Union by just one point at 11-10 with 5:01 left in the first quarter, before the Bulldogs went on a 15-2 run to close out the opening frame with a 26-12 advantage.
-The Bulldogs continued to utilize their success from beyond the arc in the second quarter, going 5-of-11 on three-pointers to outscore UAH 19-13 in the stanza for a 45-25 advantage at halftime.
-Union pushed its lead to as much as 22 points in the third quarter, but UAH pushed through for a 7-2 run in the last 3:13 to cut the visitor's lead to 16 at 57-41 before the fourth quarter.
-Woods scored 13 of her points in a 7:10 stretch to start the fourth, allowing the Chargers to go on an 18-11 run that pulled UAH within the aforementioned nine-point margin before Union was able to stave off the comeback attempt.
 
Noteworthy
-The 32-point performance from Woods was the best by a Charger since Jan. 11, 2016, when Dina Saunders also scored 32. The last time a UAH player scored more than 32 was on Nov. 26, 2013, when Jordan Smith dropped 40 against Troy.
-The 32-point showing is tied for the 14th-best single-game scoring mark in program history.
-Woods has logged a double-double in three straight and is now averaging over 20 points and nearly 12 rebounds per game on the season.
