No. 16 UAH Stumbles at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. | The No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team was tripped up on the road on Saturday, falling 75-68 at Mississippi College. UAH slips to 17-4 (9-4 Gulf South Conference), while MC improves to 8-12 (4-10 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-With the Chargers leading 55-54 with 7:10 left in the game, the Choctaws went on an 11-3 run to grab what proved to be an insurmountable 65-58 lead by the 1:47 mark of the second half.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Sam Orf led the Chargers offensively as he scored 15 to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, and one steals, and he was joined in double figures by Malik Cook-Stroupe who added 11.
-Matching Orf's team-best rebounding performance was Kerney Lane who also scored eight, handed out four assists, and picked up three steals.
-JJ Kaplan paced the squad with five assists to go along with his nine points and six boards.
-Mississippi College outshot UAH by a 47.9 percent to 39.4 percent clip, and the Chargers were just 6-for-34 from 3-point land in the contest.
-The Choctaws also edged UAH on the glass, outrebounding the guests by a 36-34 margin.
 
Inside the Flow
-The game was a tight affair for much of the opening minutes of the first half, but a surge for the Chargers pushed UAH into a 28-19 lead with 7:07 remaining in the half.
-The Choctaws would respond, however, going on a 14-7 run to pull within a pair at 35-33 at the halftime break.
-A Lane layup at the 15:23 mark of the second half gave the guests a 43-36 advantage, but MC would pull back within one less than two minutes later and went back ahead 54-52 with 7:53 remaining in the game.
-After the lead exchanged hands a pair of times, the Choctaws grabbed a seven-point edge of their own at 65-58 with 1:47 to go, and though UAH was able to pull back within three on a pair of occasions, the hosts went 10-for-11 from the free throw line in the waning moments to seal the contest.
 
Noteworthy
-Orf is averaging 14.8 points per contest over his last four games.
-Lane now has 59 assists on the season.
-Kaplan crosses the 200-rebound mark and now has 202 as he is averaging 9.6 per contest.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will look to bounce back when it returns home on Thursday to face West Alabama. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
