UAH Takes First of Two Meetings with Martin Methodist, Wins 7th Straight

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team made it seven straight on Tuesday night, pushing past visiting Martin Methodist by a 70-61 score at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 14-8, while the RedHawks fall to 16-9.

Turning Point
-Trailing by four less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, UAH held the guests to just one free throw while scoring 12 points of its own to turn a deficit into a lead it would not let go of the rest of the way.

Inside the Box Score
-In a game that featured a balanced scoring attack from the Chargers, Aryn Sanders led the team with 16 points, and she registered a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds.
-Alexis Woods was also terrific on the glass, grabbing a game-best 14 rebounds while also scoring nine.
-All nine Chargers that logged minutes in the contest had at least three points.
-Selena Pruitt scored six and handed out a team-best six assists.
-For the contest, UAH shot 38.1 percent from the floor, while the RedHawks shot 42.9 percent.
-The Chargers forced Martin Methodist into 19 turnovers and built up a key 19-10 margin in points of giveaways.
-UAH's reserves outscored the bench of the visitors by a 27-3 cushion.

Inside the Flow
-UAH led throughout the entire opening 10 minutes, grabbing its biggest lead of the quarter when a Sanders layup in the final minute made it 19-11 going into the second.
-The lead for the Chargers would balloon to as many as 12 at the midway point of the second quarter when a Pruitt bucket made it 32-20, and though the Redhawks would close the quarter on a strong run, it was a 35-30 lead for the hosts at the halftime break.
-The guests opened the quarter on a 9-3 run, grabbing their first lead of the night at the 7:05 mark of the third, and after UAH regained the advantage of the next possession, it was a tight quarter that ended with the game tied at 50-50.
-The first four points of the fourth quarter were scored by the RedHawks as they grabbed their biggest lead of the night at 54-50, but the Chargers went on a 12-1 run with an Abbi Holley 3-pointer with 4:41 left in the game pushing UAH ahead 62-55.
-Though the visitors pulled back within four on a pair of occasions, the Chargers would not permit them to trim the advantage any closer as UAH secured its seventh straight win.

Noteworthy
-This is the fourth double-double of the season for Sanders and the fifth time that she has grabbed at least 10 rebounds.
-The 14 boards for Woods is a career-best for the sophomore and the first time she has reached double figures in rebounds.
-UAH has forced the opponent into at least 19 turnovers in nine games this season and is 7-2 in those contests.

Next Time Out
-The two teams will meet again on Thursday in Huntsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
