UAH Ties Program Record Set in 1983 with 9th Straight Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. | For the first time since the 1982-83 season, The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team has reeled off nine straight victories as the Chargers came from behind for a 79-71 win at West Georgia on Saturday to tie the program record for longest winning streak. The Chargers are now 16-8 (11-5 Gulf South Conference), while UWG slips to 14-10 (7-9 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-Trailing by 14 late in the third quarter, a 20-2 run that spanned the end of the third and start of the fourth and included a 13-0 spurt to begin the final quarter pushed the Chargers in front on their way to a terrific come-from-behind victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Selena Pruitt once again had a terrific game as one of four Chargers to finish in double figures, going 8-for-14 overall and 5-of-9 from 3-point land to finish with 23 points, while also adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals for good measure.
-Holly Harris knocked down a couple of 3s on her way to 17 points, while Alexis Woods continued her strong stretch with another double-double thanks to 13 points and 13 boards.
-Sloan Mann shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to round out UAH's double-figure scorers with 11.
-Grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with seven points and a team-high four steals was Aryn Sanders.
-For the game, UAH shot 39.4 percent overall but was 10-for-23 from downtown, and the Chargers held West Georgia to a 35.5 percent shooting mark.
-UAH dominated the glass, outrebounding the Wolves by a 49-33 clip.
-The Chargers built up a key 13-4 difference in second-chance points, and UAH's bench outscored that of the hosts by a 24-13 margin.
 
Inside the Flow
-West Georgia opened up as much as an 11-point lead in the first quarter, leading 16-5 with 2:58 remaining in the quarter, but the Chargers would pull back within six at 16-10 by the end of the stanza.
-UAH would cut it to a one-point game after a Pruitt bucket with 5:19 left in the second quarter, but a 14-3 run the rest of the way lifted the hosts to a 36-24 advantage at the halftime break.
-West Georgia's advantage grew to as many as 14 in the third quarter, including at 58-44 with 1:57 remaining, but a Pruitt 3-pointer sparked a 7-2 run for the Chargers in the final two minutes to make it a 60-51 deficit going into the fourth.
-The guests continued that hot play into the fourth quarter, scoring 13 straight points with the run being punctuated by a pair of Pruitt triples bookending a Harris 3-pointer, pushing the Chargers in front at 64-60 with 7:16 left in the game.
-Ultimately UAH would outscored West Georgia 28-11 in the quarter, with six consecutive free throws down the stretch icing the contest for the Chargers.
 
Noteworthy
-Pruitt establishes a career-high with the 23 points, and she has reached double digits in six of the team's last eight games.
-Woods is averaging 14 rebounds per game over the last three contests.
-UAH is now solidly in third in the GSC standings, holding a game and a half lead over fourth-place Delta State who the Chargers swept this season. The top four teams at the end of the season host a GSC tournament contest on Super Tuesday.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will look to make history on Thursday when Shorter visits Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The contest is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
