UAH Opens Series at Union with Win Backed by Self's Shutout Performance

JACKSON, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team opened up a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Union on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 victory. UAH improves to 6-4 (3-1 GSC), while UU dips to 3-6 (0-1 GSC).
 
Game-Changer
- UAH starting pitcher Tyler Self went the distance with a complete-game shutout against the Bulldogs to lead the Chargers to the 5-0 win.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- The Chargers went on the board with two runs in the top of the third with a bases-loaded walk by Tyler McCown followed by a sac fly to center by John Trousdale.
- UAH added two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0, as Zach Duval and Colin Brewer both notched RBI base hits in the frame.
- Will Acuff capped off the UAH scoring effort in the top of the ninth with a sac fly to centerfield, which brought the game to its 5-0 final score.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Self went the full 9.0 innings in his start with three hits allowed, zero walks and 13 strikeouts.
- Drake Hollingsworth with 2-for-4 at the dish with a tea-high three runs scored.
- Brewer also had a multi-hit performance going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
- Duvall had the Chargers lone extra-base hit with a double, as he ended the day 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and two walks.
- Trousdale tied with Duvall with a roster-best two walks on Saturday.
 
Noteworthy
- This was the first shutout by a Charger pitcher since April 12 of last season, while Self registers his first career shutout.
- Self's 13 strikeouts are a career-high for the sophomore, which ranks tied for second in a game in program history.
- Head coach Hunter Royer now has 299 career wins.
