Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 20 UAH Caps Regular Season with Emphatic Win Over Lee

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team closed out the regular season by earning some revenge, defeating visiting Lee 81-69 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 23-5 (15-5 Gulf South Conference), while the Flames slip to 21-6 (16-4 GSC).

Turning Point
-A 10-3 run early in the second half pushed UAH's advantage into double figures where it would remain for the overwhelming majority of the rest of the second half.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH had four score in double figures with Malik Cook-Stroupe closing out his regular season slate at Spragins with a 7-for-12 showing on his way to scoring 18 to go along with a pair of rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
-JJ Kaplan turned in yet another double-double as he scored 17 thanks in a part to a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the charity stripe while also grabbing 12 boards in a team-high 34 minutes.
-Sam Orf went 5-for-8 from the floor to score 13 while also snagging seven boards, and Seth Swalve scored 11 and handed out a team-best three assists.
-The Chargers finished the game shooting 48.3 percent while holding the Flames to a 39.7 percent shooting mark.
-UAH won the rebounding battle by a 39-30 margin.
-The Chargers forced Lee into 13 turnovers and enjoyed an 18-7 in points off giveaways, and UAH dominated the paint, outscoring Lee 48-14 inside.

Inside the Flow
-The Flames would grab an early four-point lead before the lead switched sides five times, but a Cook-Stroupe layup at the 12:42 mark of the half put the Chargers ahead 12-11 and ultimately for the duration of the half.
-The lead would grow to 27-20 after a steal and emphatic dunk from Orf with 6:58 remaining, and UAH would go into the locker room leading 36-28 at the break.
-Lee cut it to just three less than two minutes into the second half, but a 10-3 run that was capped off by an Orf triple put the Chargers ahead by double figures for the first time at 46-36 with 14:21 left in the game.
-The guests could pull no closer than seven the rest of the way, and UAH led by double figures for the final 11:28 of the game, enjoying as much as a 16-point advantage on three occasions.

Noteworthy
-UAH honored its three seniors in David Anderson, Dalton Barkley, and Cook-Stroupe prior to the contest, and though Barkley has been lost for the remainder of the season due to injury, the two teams agreed to let him win the opening tip-off with UAH giving it back to Lee on a 10-second violation with Barkley earning one last Springs Hall ovation.
-Cook-Stroupe has reached double figures in three of his last four games, and the 18 points are tied for his second-highest output this year.
-The double-double is Kaplan's ninth of the season, and the 17 points are tied for his third most for the season.
-The four made 3-pointers for UAH in the contest are the most in a win since the team beat Saint Leo while making five on Nov. 12, 2016.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will now host a quarterfinal game of the 2020 GSC Men's Basketball Championships as the No. 3 seed, welcoming sixth-seeded West Florida at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at The Stable. Full ticket information will be released on Sunday.
