Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 20 Chargers Earn Sweep of MC, Orf Becomes Latest 1,000-Point Club Member

HUNTSVILLE | Another player joined the 1,000-point club and the 20th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team remained perfect in conference play with a weekend sweep of visiting Mississippi College, winning 91-79 on Sunday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 4-1 (4-0 Gulf South Conference), while the Choctaws fall to 0-2 (0-2 GSC).

Turning Point
-With UAH's lead trimmed to five with 6:16 remaining, Luke Burnett would knock down three straight shots from downtown to allow UAH to gain a 10-point advantage at 83-73, and after MC narrowed the gap back down to six with 1:24 left, Max Shulman hit triples on consecutive possessions to secure the 12-point margin of victory for the Chargers.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH had five finish in double figures led by Sam Orf who scored 18 to go along with team-highs in rebounds with seven and assists with four as he became the second Charger in as many days to reach 1,000 career points.
-Three of the five who scored in double digits were freshmen, and leading the way was Burnett who knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to scoring 17 while also adding four rebounds and a pair of assists.
-Joining Burnett were Nathan Moore who scored 13, while Chaney Johnson finished 4-for-5 and scored 10.
-Giving UAH its five in double figures, Shulman knocked down four of his seven 3-point attempts en route to tallying 15.
-The Chargers shot 52.4 percent for the game including making 13 from beyond the arc, while Mississippi College connected on 47.8 percent of its attempts.
-UAH won the rebounding battle by a 37-31 margin.

Inside the Flow
-The lead would exchange hands four times in the game's opening minutes, and while the margin remained in single digits for most of the opening half, a late push that featured three straight buckets from Orf – including the one that pushed him over the 1,000-point mark – gave the Chargers a 48-36 lead at the halftime break.
-UAH would push the lead out all the way to 18 after a Burnett 3-pointer fell to make 62-44 at the 15:20 mark of the second half, but Mississippi College scored the game's next 15 points to pull within three at 62-59 just before the midway point of the period.
-After going 0-for-6 with three turnovers during the stretch that allowed MC to narrow the gap, UAH would close the game going 9-for-17 – including 7-for-14 from 3-point land – while turning it over just once to secure the victory.

Noteworthy
-A day after teammate Seth Swalve reached the mark, Orf became the 28th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, and the Chargers have a pair of 1,000-point scorers for the first time since Jaime Smith and Zane Campbell's senior year in 2012-13.
-Orf has reached double figures in all five games this season.
-The five 3-pointers for Burnett match the season-high by a Charger this year, equaling the five that Swalve had against Union on Dec. 18.
