Woods Posts Another Double-Double in Narrow Road Setback

LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on the road on Saturday, dropping a narrow 55-54 contest at West Alabama to wrap up the weekend series. The Chargers slip to 3-3 (3-3 Gulf South Conference), while the Tigers improves to 3-1 (3-1 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-UAH would pull within one twice in the final 90 seconds of the game, but UWA held UAH to not be able to get a quality shot off in the closing seconds to earn the weekend split.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Alexis Woods led the Chargers on the afternoon, posting a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds while also logging a pair of assists and two steals.
-Also scoring in double figures were Selena Pruitt who had 13 and Sloan Mann who tallied 11.
-Mann had a team-high three assists, while Holly Harris collected a team-best four steals.
-West Alabama outshot the Chargers by a 42.0 percent to 29.8 percent clip, and the Tigers won the rebounding battle by a 42-36 margin.
-UAH forced the hosts to commit 22 turnovers and enjoyed an 18-10 advantage in points off giveaways.
-Tazsa Garrett-Hammett led the Tigers with 20 points and 10 boards.
 
Inside the Flow
-The contest was close throughout with neither team earning more than a six-point lead, and that margin came for the Chargers after an Alaina Taylor made it 17-11 in favor of the guests just prior to the end of the first quarter.
-UAH would remain slightly ahead through much of the second stanza, but UWA would go up by five late in the period before carrying a 29-27 advantage into the halftime break.
-The third quarter would feature three lead changes and three ties before a Mann layup near the end of the quarter gave UAH 43-38 with 10 minutes left to play in the game.
-Both teams would enjoy a five-point margin in the fourth, with the Chargers going up 45-40 at the 9:19 mark and the Tigers leading 53-48 with 1:56 left.
-UAH got within one after a pair of free throws from Woods made it 53-52 with 1:20 remaining, and though UWA answered immediately, a bucket from Woods made it 55-54 with under a minute to go.
-Pruitt would get a key defensive rebound on the ensuing possession, but the Chargers were unable to get off a quality attempt in the final 11 seconds of the game.
 
Noteworthy
-The 15 rebounds for Woods match a career-high for the junior, and she now has four double-doubles in six games.
-The rebounding performance is tied for the third-best this season by a GSC player.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will return to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall next weekend, starting a two-game series with Delta State on Friday at 6 p.m.
