HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-20, 25-11) over Montevallo on Friday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall to open the 2021 home Gulf South Conference slate. UAH improves to 9-4 (3-0 GSC), while UM slips to 8-7 (2-1 GSC).

Freshman
Zharia Hubbard led the Chargers attack in the Friday night matchup with a team-high 10 kills on a .533 hitting percentage to go along with two total blocks on the defensive end.

Hubbard was followed by
Gracie McGee with seven kills on the night with a roster-leading .538 hitting percentage, with both
Paris Morris and
Kendall Scharbert tying for third on the team with six kills apiece.

Senior
Sabrina Duncan helped guide the offense with 32 assists on the night in addition to five digs against the Falcons.

Junior
Molly Presnell anchored UAH defensively with a team-best 15 digs as she also led the team with three service aces in the victory.

The Chargers had a .267 hitting percentage as a team with five players above a .250 swing rate in the match, while holding the Falcons to just a .089 hitting percentage for the match.

UAH opened up the contest on Friday with a 25-15 win which came after the Chargers scored 10 of the final 12 points in the first set. The squad followed up the performance in the second to extend the lead after edging the Falcons 25-20 in the set.

The Chargers cruised through the third set, throttling the Falcons 25-11 to seal the three-set victory to start the weekend.
