UAH Earns Solid Result with 1-1 Road Draw at CBU

10/10/2021 5:19:00 PM

Box Score MEMPHIS | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team made it an unbeaten weekend, earning a solid 1-1 draw at host Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers are now 4-3-2 (2-2-1 Gulf South Conference), while CBU moves to 6-4-1 (4-2-1 GSC).

The contest was scoreless all the way until the 72nd minute when Bailey Tadlock scored for Christian Brothers, but the Chargers would have an answer 10 minutes in the 82nd.

After UAH earned a free kick, Caroline Buchanan played it into the area in front of goal where Hayley Bedingfield would head it in for the equalizer, and the goal marks the first for the freshman from Madison.

Neither team would put a shot on frame the rest of regulation or in the first overtime period, but Adriana Wright would make her fourth save of the game in the 104th to keep it level before Buchanan's shot in the 109th was saved by Wright's counterpart Riley Chafin to preserve the 1-1 draw.

Wright had been especially challenged early in the contest, recording three saves by the 19th minute.

CBU outshot the Chargers by an 18-6 margin with the difference in attempts on goal 6-3 in favor of the hosts, and the Bucs also built up a 12-5 advantage in corners including earning three in the second overtime period.

The contest was a relatively chippy one with a total of 28 fouls whistled, but none of the offenses were too nefarious as the referee went to the book just twice with both teams getting a yellow card.

The Chargers return home next weekend, welcoming a pair of in-state foes beginning with a Friday night visit from Montevallo. Kick-off at Charger Park is slated for 5 p.m.
