UAH Falls in Four Sets at No. 13 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team fell on the road at No. 13 West Florida by a score of 3-1 (22-25, 9-25, 25-23, 25-22) on Tuesday evening in Gulf South Conference action. UAH slips to 11-6 (5-2 GSC), while UWF improves to 20-1 (8-0 GSC).

The Chargers offense featured four players with seven kills or more on the night, led by sophomore Gracie McGee with 11 kills on a .235 hitting percentage.

McGee was followed by Zharia Hubbard, Paris Morris and Kendall Scharbert with seven kills apiece on the night, as Morris registered a team-best .286 hitting percentage against the Argonauts.

Shayla Libby paced the UAH defense with 17 digs in the four-set contest, and she was joined in double-digits digs by Sabrina Duncan with 12 and Molly Presnell with 11.

Duncan was the lone Charger with a double-double on Tuesday, as she also notched a team-high 33 assists to go along with her 12 digs. This is her sixth double-double of 2021.

The Chargers defense combined for a season-high 14 total blocks against the Argonauts on Tuesday, led by Hubbard with seven total blocks along with Morris and Scharbert with five apiece. UAH's 14 total blocks are also the most in a GSC match this season.

The opening set was tightly contested late before the Argos edged out the 25-22 win in the first, before pushing their lead to 2-0 on a 25-9 victory in the second stanza.

UAH withstood a late push by West Florida to win the third set 25-23 and cut the match deficit to 2-1. The Chargers put together a late three-point rally in the fourth to threaten a fifth set, but the Argos would prevail 25-22 to take the GSC midweek matchup in four frames.

The Chargers look ahead to a two-match trip through the Volunteer State this weekend, beginning on Friday at Union at 7 p.m. before heading west to Christian Brothers on Saturday at 2 p.m.
