HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's cross country teams are set to host the 2021 UAH Invitational at the John Hunt Park Cross Country Course on Saturday morning. The men's eight-kilometer race begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the women's five-kilometer race at 8:30 a.m.

This will be the largest competing field in a UAH-hosted race at John Hunt Park, which has received a major investment and overhaul over the past few years to become one of the premier cross country courses in the nation.

A total of 36 teams will compete on the women's side in addition to 34 men's teams competing on Saturday. A full list of the teams competing this weekend can be found below, which includes five nationally-ranked men's squads and three nationally-ranked women's teams.

David Cain's men's squad enters Saturday's race ranked 12th in the nation after finishing fifth overall in a talented field of competition at the Chile Pepper Festival last weekend. Senior
Jay Day has been the squad's leader this season, as he most recently earned 24th at the Chile Pepper Festival with a time of 24:35.3.

Last season, UAH garnered first in its season-opening home meet which featured 11 competing teams at John Hunt Park. The Chargers featured eight runners in the top 25 at the 2020 UAH Invitational, including Day who led the team in third at 24:32.76.

On the women's side, the Chargers are coming off a 25th-place team finish out of 37 competing squads at the Chile Pepper Festival as junior
Kaylee Stewart led the way for the Blue & White in 63rd with a time of 18:04.9.

In 2020, Stewart led the Chargers to a third-place team finish at the UAH Invitational as she completed the course second overall at a time of 17:19.96. A total of four Chargers clocked in the top 30 of the field in last season's UAH-hosted race at John Hunt Park.

This weekend's race also serves as the final regular-season tune-up for the Chargers men's and women's teams as UAH looks ahead to the 2021 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 23 in Clinton, Mississippi, following this Saturday's competition.
