UAH Men Finish Third, Women 10th at UAH Invitational on Saturday Morning

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 2021 UAH Invitational at John Hunt Park on Saturday morning with the No. 12 men's team finishing third overall and the women's squad earning 10th in the team competition.
 
In the men's eight-kilometer race, Pittsburg State won the team competition, followed by fellow Gulf South Conference members Lee in second and UAH in third. A total of 33 teams competed in the men's competition for a total of 340 runners on Saturday morning.
 
The Chargers were led individually by Jay Day with an 11th-place time of 24:12.21 at the UAH Invitational, and he was joined in the top 20 by Allan Anderson in 16th at a time of 24:19.92.
 
Day's time of 24:12.21 is the fastest 8k time in program history, as he bests the record he already held at 24:15.2 set at the 2020 Blazer Classic. Anderson's time also will go down in the record books as the third-fastest 8k time and the fastest 8k run by Anderson.
 
UAH additionally generated five more runners in the top 50 of the race, including Jacob Bishop (26th, 24:35.36), Harold Lacroix (27th, 24:36.76), Alex Herbst (39th, 24:47.77), Sam Wilhelm (42nd, 24:52.51), and Will Thompson (43rd, 24:54.31).
 
Head coach David Cain's squad also featured performances by Caleb Boys (59th, 25:09.15), Gabe Henneberger (73rd, 25:26.57), Jack Elliott (80th, 25:33.51), Jackson Danner (109th, 25:55.79), Taylor Nails (131st, 26:20.67), Nathan Knox (137th, 26:24.83), Alex Ponce (146th, 26:32.89), Zach Howard (179th, 26:55.37), Peyton Bailey (185th, 27:00.79), Corey Adamsky (204th, 27:18.81), Jacob Kachadorian (224th, 27:35.36), and James Cain (247th, 28:11.41.)
 
On the women's side, Lee came away with the top spot in the team competition followed by Southern Indiana in second and Dallas Baptist in third. The Chargers claimed 10th, which was the fourth-highest amongst South Region squads.
 
A total of 33 teams competed in the women's five-kilometer race which featured 292 runners in the field.
 
The Chargers were paced by Kaylee Stewart in 15th overall on Saturday with a time of 17:54.10, as the junior was joined in the top 50 by Emily McMurry in 48th with a time of 18:26.83. Stewart's time on Saturday is the 11th-fastest 5k performance in UAH program history.
 
Three additional Chargers recorded top-100 times, including Abby Weist (69th, 18:58.07), Taylor Engram (77th, 19:04.69), and Amelia Brady (87th, 19:13.11).
 
UAH's roster of competing runners on Saturday also included Claudia Dassow (113th, 19:28.08), Tatiana Padgett (125th, 19:34.01), Caroline Ursprung (137th, 19:42.04), Paige Wohlgemuth (223rd, 21:18.06) and Taylor Simmons (265th, 23:39.67).

The Chargers cross country teams now look ahead to the 2021 Gulf South Conference Championships in Clinton, Mississippi, on Oct. 23 to begin the postseason.
