Scharbert Has Career Night as UAH Outlasts MC in Five Sets

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team outlasted Mississippi College in a 3-2 victory (25-17, 23-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-3) on Friday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 20-8 (12-3 GSC), while MC slips to 8-14 (6-8 GSC).
 
The Chargers have now won 20 or more games in four consecutive fall seasons, which is the first time the program has achieved the feat since a string of 12 straight 20-plus win seasons from 1990-2001.
 
Senior Kendall Scharbert had one of the most successful offensive performances in the program's rally-scoring era, as she posted a career-high 26 kills on a .353 hitting percentage to lead the Chargers in the Friday night victory. She additionally posted four total blocks and two digs on the defensive end.
 
Junior Molly Presnell also had a career night against the Choctaws as she accumulated a personal-best and team-high 24 digs in the contest. She nearly achieved a double-double with nine kills as well.
 
Shayla Libby followed Presnell on the defensive end with 23 scoops in addition to a team-leading four service aces.
 
Sabrina Duncan helped guide the Chargers offense with 52 assists to go along with seven digs, three total blocks and three kills. Duncan's 52 assists are her most of the season, as she has topped 50 helpers twice now this season.
 
The Chargers amassed an early advantage over the Choctaws in the first set en route to a 25-17 win in the frame to take the match lead. UAH nearly came from behind to take the second set before MC evened the match at 1-1 by taking the stanza 25-23.
 
Both teams continued to battle in the third set, with the Choctaws edging out a 27-25 win to take a 2-1 match lead. UAH rebounded in the fourth to win the set 25-18, prior to throttling Mississippi College 15-3 in the fifth to seal the five-set victory on Friday.
 
UAH wraps up the 2021 regular season tomorrow at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 2 p.m. with a visit from West Alabama. The Chargers will celebrate the program's 2021 Senior Class prior to the contest.
