CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped a 62-58 decision to Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon to complete play at the regional crossover. UAH slips to 0-2, while FSC improves to 1-1.
Miajah Bullock led the Chargers in scoring with 21 points in the contest after going an efficient 9-for-10 from the charity stripe, while
Sloan Mann added 12 points of her own.
Holly Harris chipped in 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for UAH.
Selena Pruitt picked up six rebounds to pace the Chargers on the glass.
UAH would find themselves down 8-2 five minutes into the opening quarter, but would then go on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 10-8 lead over the Mocs on their way to a 16-12 lead at the first break. The lead would change hands five times throughout the second frame, but UAH would still hold the advantage at the half by a score of 28-27.
Florida Southern pulled away in the third stanza and would go up by as many as 14 to see themselves standing on a 51-42 lead after outscoring UAH 24-14 in the quarter, and though the Chargers would shoot 63.6 percent from the field in the last period, the Mocs would go on to take home the 62-58 win.
For the contest, UAH hit 37.5 percent of its attempts from the floor while Florida Southern turned in a 38.7 percent shooting performance. The Mocs won the rebounding battle by a 41-30 margin and used that to create a key 15-6 difference in second-chance points.
Whitney Jacob led Florida Southern with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
UAH will now look to turn the page to its home opener, as the Chargers will play host to Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday. Tip-off in Huntsville is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
