HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell short in their home opener as they played host to Trevecca Nazarene, letting TNU slide past them by a 67-60 score. UAH falls to 0-3, while the Trojans improve to 1-2.
Leading the Chargers in scoring was Sloan Mann with 16 points, while Alexis Woods added 13 points and Miajah Bullock put up 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for UAH.
Selena Pruitt picked up nine rebounds to pace the Chargers on the boards.
Trevecca opened the scoring with a pair of triples and would claim an 8-2 lead in the first few minutes of the contest before Sloan Mann responded with a 3-pointer of her own for the Chargers. The Trojans added another field goal but UAH put together a 9-3 run on their way to a 14-11 lead after the opening frame. Miajah Bullock would keep the Chargers rolling with a pair of field goals in the first minute of the second stanza to extend the lead to seven until the Trojans would go on an 8-0 run over the last 4:25 of the quarter while shooting 50.0 percent from the field to carry a 28-27 lead into the halftime break.
UAH would go back and forth with Trevecca early in the third taking a 31-30 lead, but another strong shooting performance by the Trojans at a 60.0 percent clip would see them holding a 52-40 advantage after three periods of play. UAH would see themselves down by as many as 14 before Selena Pruitt would score five straight and then turn it over to Alexis Woods who would also score five straight as the Chargers constructed a 10-0 run, cutting into the deficit to pull within four at 54-50. UAH shot 61.5 percent from the field in a strong push in the final frame but Trevecca was able to hold on to take home the 67-60 win.
For the contest, UAH hit 42.9 percent of its attempts from the floor while the Trojans put up a 48.1 percent shooting performance. Trevecca won the rebounding battle by a 36-25 margin.Â
Faith Wilken led TNU with 25 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Emma Palmer and Alexa Smiddy also scored double figures.
UAH will now go back on the road with a trip across the Georgia border as the Chargers will pay a visit to Columbus State on Saturday afternoon.
Tip-off in Columbus is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
