TROY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped an exhibition contest against division one opponent and Sun Belt Conference member Troy University 107-57 on Wednesday night.
Jirah Rogers led the Chargers in scoring with 14 points on the night after going 4-for-7 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line, and she also paced UAH on the glass with six rebounds to her name. Miajah Bullock put up 13 points in the game, using her speed to drive the lane while Sloan Mann was also in double figures for the Blue and White with 12 points.
The Chargers traded buckets back and forth with the Trojans in the early goings and led 8-7 after an Olivia Howard layup at the 6:11 mark would give UAH the early one point lead. The visitors would go on to score nine more points in the quarter to trail 28-17 at the first intermission. A Sloan Mann 3-pointer with 2:25 left in the second frame cut the Trojan lead to five at 36-31, but would be the last points of the first half for the Chargers as the advantage for Troy would grow to as many as 13 as the hosts would hold a 44-31 lead at the halftime break.
The Trojans would gradually pull away in the third and fourth quarters after shooting 55.8 percent over the two periods and would limit UAH to a 27.6 percent shooting performance across the second half to secure the 107-57 victory.
The Chargers would finish the game shooting 34.5 percent while the hosts turned in a 50.6 percent shooting performance on the night. TU would build up a 31-15 advantage in points off turnovers and outrebounded the Blue and White 56-30 which proved to be a key difference in the contest.
UAH will now return to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday afternoon when the team visits Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. for the Chargers fourth GSC game of the season.
Tip-off at Lee is set for 1:00 p.m. CT.
