No. 23 UAH Falls Twice to Union in Home-Opening Doubleheader Friday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell twice to visiting Union by scores of 3-2 and 17-7 in the squad's home-opening Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Friday at Charger Park. UAH dips to 2-3 (2-3 GSC), while UU rises to 2-3 (2-3 GSC).

Game-Changer
-Union's pitchers on Saturday combined for 9.0 innings with 10 strikeouts, two walks and one earned run as the Bulldogs went on to edge the Chargers in the opener by a 3-2 final.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-UAH went on the board first in the bottom half of the first as Colin Brewer ripped an RBI single through the left side.
-Union pulled ahead with two runs in the second inning, and the Bulldogs extended the advantage with a single run in the fifth.
-The Chargers slimmed the Bulldogs lead to one with as Garrett Bodine scored on a groundout, but Union would hang on for the 3-2 win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH totaled four hits in the contest, as Bodine, Brewer, Griffin Rivers and Landon Ezzell each had one base knock in the game.
-Bodine posted a team-high two runs and two stolen bases in the contest.
-John Trousdale and Zach Duvall had one walk apiece.
-Tyler Self started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 6.0 innings with three earned runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.

Game-Changer
-Union put together an eight-run top of the second inning to take an early lead, and the Bulldogs went on to rally for four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to help the visitors to the 17-7 win in the night cap on Friday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-After the Bulldogs eight-run rally, UAH pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the second highlighted by a two-run home run to left by Zach Duvall.
-Union scored four times in the fourth to extend the lead to 12-3.
-The Chargers scored three runs in the fourth inning, which featured RBI singles by Trousdale and Tyler McCown to slim the deficit to 12-6.
-A Brett Barbee RBI single in the bottom of the fifth made it a five-run game at 12-7, but Union responded in the sixth with three runs to lead 15-7.
-The Bulldogs went on to plate two runs in the top of the ninth to bring the game to its 17-7 final score.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers totaled 12 base hits in game two on Friday, led by Brett Barbee who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
-Both Trousdale and Hunter Schwartz collected two base hits in the contest.
-Duvall had a team-high two RBI, thanks to his two-run homer in the second inning.
-Bodine drew a team-best two walks.
-Griffin Rivers registered the Chargers second extra-base hit in the game with a double in the game to go along with two runs scored.
