UAH Drops Extra-Inning Affair at Charger Park to Union


HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell to visiting Union by a final score of 8-7 at Charger Park on Saturday to wrap up a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH dips to 2-4 (2-4 GSC), while UU improves to 3-3 (3-3 GSC).
 
Game-Changer
-After UAH knotted the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Union scored twice in the top of the 10th which proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs went on to win 8-7.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-Union went ahead with two runs in the top of the first, which UAH negated in the bottom half of the second with two runs of their own off an RBI single by Brett Barbee and a sac fly by Mitchell Rottier.
-The Bulldogs regained the lead at 3-2 in the fourth, but the Chargers rebounded in the bottom half of the frame with one run to knot the game again.
-A three-run sixth by Union put the visitors ahead 6-3.
-UAH cut Union's lead to 6-5 in the seventh after a two-RBI single to right by Hunter Schwartz with the bases loaded prior to tying the game on Barbee's infield RBI single in the ninth.
-Union plated a pair in the top of the 10th, and UAH was able to score once in the bottom half to slim the deficit to one run as the Bulldogs finished off the inning with an 8-7 win.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH boasted 12 hits as a team on Saturday, led by both Barbee and Colin Brewer with three base knocks apiece.
-Barbee, Bodine and Schwartz tied for the team lead in RBI with two each.
-Brewer, Griffin Rivers and Will Acuff had one walk apiece.
-UAH had three extra-base hits in the game, including doubles by Bodine, Brewer and Carson Villalta.
-Kody Keiser started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 5.0 innings with two earned runs allowed, zero walks and five strikeouts.
-Dylan Murphy took the loss in relief to drop his season record to 1-1, as he hurled 2.0 innings with one earned run, zero walks and three strikeouts.
 
Noteworthy
-With three hits today, Brewer now leads the Chargers offense with a .421 batting average (8-for-19) this season.
-UAH has had 12 or more hits in three games in 2021.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH continues GSC play next Saturday and Sunday at West Georgia.
