UAH Splits Doubleheader at West Georgia Saturday

CARROLLTON, Ga. | The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader at West Georgia on Saturday by winning the first game in eight innings by a score of 16-5 before dropping game two 5-2. UAH moves to 3-5 (3-5 GSC), while UWG improves to sits at 4-4 (4-4 GSC).

Game-Changer
-The Chargers had rallies of three runs or more in four different innings as UAH throttled the Wolves 16-5 to open the three-game series.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Griffin Rivers had an outstanding day at the plate in game one on Saturday as he went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer and a two-RBI triple. He finished with a team-high three walks, four runs and four RBI.
-Tyler Self started on the mound for the Chargers, improving to 2-1 in 2021 after throwing 7.0 innings with one earned run allowed, zero walks and five strikeouts.
-Parker Warren earned his first save of the season, tossing a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen.
-UAH totaled 16 base hits in the contest, as five Chargers had two hits or more.
-Tyler McCown rated second on the team with three base hits in six trips to the plate to go along with two runs scored.
-Will Acuff and Brett Barbee each drove in three runs to rate tied for second on the roster, with both players notching one base hit apiece as well.
-Acuff stole a team-high two bases.
-Garrett Bodine and John Trousdale both had one run, two hits and two RBI.
-One of Bodine's base hits were a double.

Game-Changer
-West Georgia's starting pitcher John Rasmussen tossed 7.0 shutout innings with one hit allowed to lead the Wolves to the 5-2 win in game two on Saturday.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Dylan Murphy started on the mound for the Chargers in game two, turning in 5.0 innings with four earned runs allowed and five strikeouts. Murphy took the loss to dip to 1-2 on the season.
-Redshirt freshman Austin East had a strong outing out of the bullpen with 2.2 innings with one run allowed and two strikeouts.
-The Chargers posted five hits in the loss, led by Garrett Bodine and Zach Duvall who both went 2-for-4. Each player also notched an extra-base hit with Bodine posting a double and Duvall registering a triple.
-Griffin Rivers went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
-Mitchell Rottier recorded one RBI and one walk.
 
Noteworthy
-Bodine's hit streak sits at eight games after the two-hit performance in game two.
-Duvall's triple was the fourth of his career.
