No. 10 UAH Sets Program Record for Conference Start in Win at CBU

MEMPHIS | The No. 10 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team made it 10 straight victories and set a program record for best 10-game conference record as the Chargers went on the road and defeated host Christian Brothers 79-73 on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 10-1 (10-0 Gulf South Conference), while CBU falls to 2-7 (2-7 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-With the Chargers trailing by one with seven minutes left in the game, UAH would go on a 13-3 run in which they were 5-for-7 from the floor while holding CBU to just one bucket, taking firm grasp of the contest at 77-68 with less than three minutes left.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Seth Swalve had a terrific day for the Chargers, going 5-for-6 from 3-point land on his way to scoring a team-best 24 points while also grabbing seven rebounds.
-Shooting 6-for-10 from the floor and scoring 15 was Sam Orf, while JJ Kaplan narrowly missed out on a double-double as he had 12 points and a game-best nine boards in addition to a team-high six assists.
-Chaney Johnson made it four in double figures for UAH as he scored 10.
-The Chargers had their best shooting day of the season, registering a 58.0 percent field goal mark including going 12-for-16 from beyond the arc, while the Bucs shot 47.3 percent overall.
-Keeping CBU in the game, the hosts enjoyed an 18-7 difference in points off turnovers despite UAH giving it away just 12 times compared to 10 giveaways for Christian Brothers.
-UAH won the rebounding battle by a 31-24 clip, though the hosts also held a 10-6 margin in second-chance points.
 
Inside the Flow
-The first half was a see-saw battle through the first seven minutes or so, with the lead changing sides three different sides with the contest tied on three other occasions, but CBU would lead by as many as seven late in the period before a Swalve bucket at the buzzer sent the Chargers into the locker room trailing 41-36.
-UAH started off the second half on fire, using a 9-0 run that featured six from Kaplan and a triple from Swalve to turn the deficit into a 45-41 lead by the 17:47 mark of the period.
-The lead would then exchange hands seven times over the next 10 minutes with CBU sliding ahead 65-64 with 7:01 remaining in the game.
-A 13-3 run for the Chargers, capped off by a Max Shulman long-range shot put the Chargers in front by nine and effectively sealed the contest as Christian Brothers would pull no closer than four the rest of the way.
 
Noteworthy
-The 75.0 percent success rate from downtown ties the sixth-best single-game mark in GSC history.
-The 24 points for Swalve mark a season-best for the senior who also matched his season-high in rebounds with the seven boards.
-Orf has now reached double figures in five straight along and in 10 of UAH's 11 games on the year, helping average a team-best 17.5 points per game.
-UAH has won five straight in the series with CBU, improving to 28-9 all-time against the Bucs.
 
Next Time Out
-The two teams will wrap up the weekend in Memphis on Sunday with tip-off now slated for 1 p.m. to avoid the wintry weather that is forecast for the Mid South on Sunday evening.
