No. 10 UAH Wins Program's 9th Regular Season GSC Title

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 10 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team secured the program's ninth regular season Gulf South Conference championship, beating visiting Union 73-61 on Saturday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH's 12th win improves the Chargers to 12-1 (12-0 GSC), while UU slips to 8-6 (8-6 GSC).

Turning Point
-UAH used an impressive 20-2 push in the middle of the second half to turn a two-point lead into an insurmountable 63-43 lead with 8:15 left in the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
-A total of 11 different Chargers recorded points in the game, led by a trio of seniors who scored in double figures including Sam Orf who was 6-for-9 from the floor on his way to scoring 13.
-Seth Swalve knocked down three triples to score 13, while JJ Kaplan stuffed the stat sheet with a double-double thanks to 12 points and a team-best 10 rebounds while also handing out a team-high seven assists.
-For the contest, the Chargers shot 47.2 percent compared to 39.0 percent for the Bulldogs.
-UAH won the rebounding battle by a 38-29 clip.
-The Blue and White was quite opportunistic on the night, converting Union's 14 turnovers into a 25-9 edge in points off giveaways.
 
Noteworthy
-UAH won division championships in 2000, 2003, 2010, and 2011 in addition to titles in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016 when divisional play was not used.
-This is Kaplan's second double-double of the season, and he has reached double figures in scoring in six straight.
-Orf – UAH's leading scorer with 17.8 points per game – has been on a hot tear, shooting 64.7 percent in the team's last three games.

-UAH will wrap up the regular season home slate on Sunday against Union at 3 p.m. The team will honor its six seniors prior to the game.
