UAH Slips in Midweek Matchup at Miles Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped a nonconference midweek matchup at Miles on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 4-2 at historic Rickwood Field. UAH dips to 4-6, while MC improves to 1-0.
 
Game-Changer
-Miles benefitted from a pair of strong pitching performances by Andrew Datcher and Zavian Caldwell who combined for 9.0 innings with two earned runs allowed and 11 strikeouts to lead the Golden Bears to the 4-1 win on Wednesday.
 
Scoring Breakdown
-Miles would strike in each of the first three innings with two runs in the first inning followed by one apiece in the second and third for an early 4-0 lead.
-UAH went on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth as Colin Brewer scored on a wild pitch.
-The Chargers cut the MC lead to 4-2 – which would stand as the game's final – with one run in the sixth when Brewer scored on a Griffin Rivers groundout.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH accumulated nine base hits on Wednesday, led by Brewer who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one double.
-Rivers went 1-for-3 in the loss with one RBI, one double and one walk.
-John Trousdale also notched one base hit and one walk against MC.
-Freshman Will Griffith started on the mound for the Chargers with 2.0 innings, two earned runs allowed and a team-high four strikeouts. His record dipped to 0-1 with the loss.
-UAH had three relievers post scoreless outings out of the bullpen, including Jake Christa (2.0 IP), Ian McCoy (1.0 IP) and Heath Senn (1.0 IP).
 
Noteworthy
-Brewer's two-hit performance moves him into first on the roster with a .412 batting average (14-for-34).
 
Next Time Out
-UAH heads to West Florida for a three-game Gulf South Conference series on Saturday and Sunday. The series was originally scheduled to be played in Huntsville.
