UAH Earns 11-8 Win Over Keiser on Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team picked up a win over visiting Keiser on Sunday morning, winning 11-8 in a game that was played at the Merrimack Complex on turf due to the wet conditions in the Tennessee Valley. The Chargers improve to 2-1, while the Seahawks dip to 2-2.
 
Keiser is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA national rankings.
 
Turning Point
-With the game tied at 8-8 in the fourth quarter, Luke LeVette would score his second and third goals of the game just a minute apart with 8:48 and 7:47 remaining to put the Chargers up for good.
 
Inside the Box Score
-LeVette finished the contest with six points as he scored the three goals and added three more assists.
-Finishing with four points from two goals and two assists was Brody Phillips.
-Kyle Light and Reid Vender both scored twice, and UAH's other two goals came from David Spuhl and Bryant Baus.
-Joseph Stuber picked up an assist in the contest.
-Stuber matched Josh Hardin for the team lead in ground balls both had five, and Hardin also paced the team with four caused turnovers.
-Zak Welsh made seven stops in the cage on his way to earning the win.
-The Chargers finished the game with a wide 53-27 advantage in shots including a 24-15 edge in shots that were on target.
-UAH was 24-of-26 in clear attempts, while the guests went 21-of-25.
-The Seahawks enjoyed a slim 28-27 margin in ground balls.
 
Inside the Flow
-UAH scored the first three goals of the game with a pair of strikes from Phillips sandwiching a LeVette goal, and the Chargers would take a 3-1 lead out of the first after Keiser scored with 3:49 left in the period.
-The guests pulled within one quickly into the second stanza, but Vender answered less than a minute later before Light scored at the 7:24 mark to create what would be a 5-2 advantage for UAH at the half.
-A Seahawks goal with 12:48 left in the third was followed just 11 seconds later by another Light tally, but Keiser then rattled off three straight to tie the game at 6-6 with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter.
-UAH then struck twice in the final minute of the period with Vender and Spuhl scoring to give the hosts a two-goal lead at 8-6 going into the final 15 minutes.
-A pair of goals for Keiser within the first three minutes of the fourth knotted the game at 8-8, but LeVette then scored his back-to-back goals to push the Chargers ahead for good.
-Baus would provide the Chargers with an insurance marker with just under two minutes remaining to create the 11-8 final.
 
Noteworthy
-LeVette now has 114 goals and 143 points for his career, and the game-winning goal is the eighth of his tenure in Huntsville.
-The five ground balls from Stuber and Hardin represent a season-high by a Charger.
-Welsh earns his second win of the season.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will return to action on Saturday against Westminster at Charger Park. That contest is stated for a 7 p.m. start.
