Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chargers Victorious Over UWA to Earn Weekend Sweep

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team made it a weekend sweep of visiting West Alabama, winning 73-52 on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 7-4 (7-4 Gulf South Conference), while UWA falls to 6-6 (5-6 GSC).

Turning Point
-A defensive effort that limited West Alabama to just seven third-quarter points provided UAH with a double-figure lead that it would not let out of its grasp the rest of the contest.

Inside the Box Score
-Selena Pruitt was 8-for-14 on the night on her way to scoring a team-best 23 points, and she matched Alexis Woods, Adrian Grant, and Alaina Taylor with a team-high four rebounds.
-Thanks in part to three triples, Holly Harris also reached double figures as she poured in 17, and she matched Taylor and Olivia Smith with a team-best three steals.
-Taylor led the Chargers with five of the team's 16 assists.
-The Chargers shot 50.0 percent overall and were good on 42.1 percent of their 3-point tries in the game, while UWA connected on 42.9 percent of its attempts from the floor.
-UAH outrebounded the Tigers by a 28-25 clip and enjoyed a 6-0 advantage in second-chance points.
-The hosts also forced UWA to turn it over 20 times – while giving it away just 11 times themselves – and converted that into a 17-7 edge in points off turnovers.

Inside the Flow
-It was nip-and-tuck in the first quarter as the lead exchanged hands seven times and there were also a pair of ties, but the Chargers scored five of the last six points in the quarter to take a 17-14 lead into the second.
-The lead would grow to as many as 11 in the second quarter for the hosts as a Harris 3-pointer at the 3:48 mark made it a 30-19 game, and a Pruitt 3-pointer in the final minute of the period gave UAH a 36-28 cushion at the half.
-UAH held the Tigers to just seven points in the third quarter, growing the lead to as high as 14 before holding a 48-35 advantage.
-That would be as close as the game would be the rest of the way as the Chargers led by as many as 24 before finishing with the 73-52 final.

Noteworthy
-Pruitt's 23 represent a season-high for the junior and is just three off her career-best of 26 which she had last year against Montevallo in the GSC tournament.
-The seven made field goals for Harris are season-high for the Franklin, Tennessee, native.
-The 50.0 percent shooting performance from the team is the best of the year, and the 16 assists are tied for the second-most this season.
-In the past two seasons the Chargers are 17-4 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will remain at home next weekend and welcome Christian Brothers for a two-game series that starts with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday at The Stable.
