BLOOMINGTON, Minn. | The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced its 2020-21 All-WCHA teams on Wednesday afternoon, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Tyrone Bronte as a WCHA All-Rookie Team honoree.

Bronte is the UAH hockey program's second WCHA All-Rookie selection, as
Max McHugh first earned the honor in 2014-15.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Bronte – the HCA November National Rookie of the Month – was the Chargers offensive leader throughout the 2020-21 regular season with a team-high 13 points on four goals and a roster-best nine assists over 20 games. Additionally, three of Bronte's four goals game on the power play to lead all Chargers and rank tied for first amongst WCHA freshmen.

Bronte's 13 points rank tied for second among WCHA rookies, while his 176 face-off wins are second amongst league freshmen entering the WCHA playoffs this weekend.

The WCHA additionally unveiled its academic awards, with the Chargers accruing four WCHA Scholar-Athletes and 10 WCHA All-Academic Team members.

Connor Wood. Both Thompson and Wood garnered their second WCHA Scholar-Athlete award.

Jay Powell, Thompson and Wood.

The WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award was developed through member institution Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the conference membership for the 2005-06 season. To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters. A candidate may also qualify if his overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his present institution.

To be eligible for a WCHA All-Academic Team selection, a student-athlete must have completed one year of eligibility at his present institution prior to the current academic year with a grade point average of 3.0 or above for the prior two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is 3.0 or better for all terms at his present institution.

UAH is set to start play in the 2021 WCHA postseason tournament as the seventh seed with a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:07 p.m. CT at second-seeded Lake Superior State. The series will continue on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. CT and, if necessary, Sunday at 4:07 p.m. CT.
