3/11/2021 12:25:00 PM

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team is set to begin play in the 2021 WCHA postseason tournament as the seventh seed in a best-of-three series against second-seeded Lake Superior State starting Friday at 6:07 p.m. CT.

The series will continue with game two on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. CT, followed by a game three, if necessary, on Sunday at 4:07 p.m. CT.

This is the UAH hockey program's fourth appearance in the WCHA postseason tournament after most recently making the league playoffs in the 2018-19 season as the eighth seed.

The Chargers wrapped up the 2020-21 regular season with a 3-16-1 overall record and a 3-11-0 mark in WCHA play, after most recently dropping a pair of road contests at rival Bemidji State this past Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend will be the Chargers third trip to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, this season for the Blue & White, after playing a nonconference series against the Lakers on Dec. 5-6 before a WCHA series on Feb. 19-20. UAH has gone 0-3-1 in those four contests this season to give the program a 7-18-5 all-time series record versus Lake Superior State.

UAH's offense has been paced by Tyrone Bronte in the 2020-21 campaign, as the freshman boasts a team-high 13 points on four goals and nine assists to rate tied for second amongst WCHA freshmen in points. Bronte garnered WCHA All-Rookie status for his performance this season, becoming the second-ever WCHA All-Rookie honoree for the program.

Sophomore David Fessenden has played the majority of time in goal for the Chargers this season with a 2.61 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. His record is 3-9-1 this season entering the WCHA postseason.

The following round of the WCHA postseason tournament will be held at the highest remaining seed, and will feature the four remaining teams facing off in a two-round championship weekend. The semifinals will be held on March 19, with the winners advancing to the WCHA Championships on March 20.
