HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought contest on Saturday, falling 9-8 to visiting Colorado Mesa at Charger Park. The Chargers slip to 2-4 on the season, while CMU improves to 2-1.

Turning Point
-Five straight goals for the guests during a span that stretched across the second and third quarters turned a 4-4 tie into a 9-4 advantage, and though UAH held the Mavericks scoreless from the 8:13 mark of the third quarter on, the deficit proved too much for the Chargers to overcome.

Inside the Box Score
-Keeping his team in the game,
Zak Welsh was impressive as he stopped 21 shots on the day, including eight straight to help hold CMU scoreless for the final 23 minutes of the game.
-The Chargers were led offensively on the afternoon by
Luke LeVette who scored three times and added an assist to total four points, and he fired off a team-best 12 shots of which six were on target.

Kyle Light scored a pair of goals to have two points, a total that was matched by
Preston Deno who had a goal and an assist along with
Josh Campbell and
Joseph Stuber who both had a pair of assists.

Bryce Ferraro both scored a goal in the game, while
Greyson Stevens had an assist.

Silas Herman led the Chargers with seven ground balls and was 11-for-21 in face-offs.

Inside the Flow
-The teams traded goals in a rapid succession to start the game as after CMU scored at the 12:14 mark of the first, Deno would tally at 11:40 to know the game at 1-1 before the guests scored twice more later in the quarter to take a 3-1 lead into the second.
-LeVette scored a pair to start the third quarter and tie the game at 3-3, and though
Kyle Light would strike after CMU went briefly ahead at 4-3, the Mavericks scored the final two goals of the period to take a 6-4 halftime lead.
-Colorado Mesa then scored the first three of the third to go in front 9-4 at the 8:13 mark, though LeVette would have an answer 20 seconds later and Weaver would score just before the end of the third to pull UAH within three at 9-6.
-A man-up goal from Ferraro at the 12:15 mark of the fourth and Light's second of the game with 3:03 left in the game created the 9-8 final.

-The 21 saves for Welsh is a new single-game record for the Chargers, surpassing the previous record of 20 set by
Michl McNeil on March 26, 2016, against CSU Pueblo.
-LeVette now has a team-high 11 goals and 15 points.
