UAH Splits Doubleheader Friday at Charger Park with No. 22 Shorter

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team opened up a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Charger Park on Friday against No. 22 Shorter with a doubleheader split with a 9-5 win in game one followed by a 13-2 loss in the night cap. UAH moves to 13-14 (11-12 GSC), while SU sits at 22-10 (19-10 GSC).

Game-Changer
-Griffin Rivers had an outstanding performance as the squad's designated hitter in game one on Friday, as he went 3-for-3 with two, two-run home runs, a double and four RBI to lead UAH to its 9-5 series-opening victory.

-The Chargers accrued 13 base hits as a team in the series-opener, led by Rivers with his team-high three base hits, two runs scored and four RBI.
-Rivers additionally drew an intentional walk to reach base in all four trips to the plate.
-Will Acuff went 2-for-4 in the contest with two runs and two RBI, as he notched an RBI double and a solo home run.
-Austin East started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 5.2 innings with four earned runs allowed, one walk and nine strikeouts. He picked up the win to improve to 1-1 in 2021.
-Parker Henson was credited with his first save of the season, after working the final 2.0 innings with no runs or hits allowed.
-John Trousdale, Landon Ezzell and Collin Brewer each notched two base hits in the win, with Ezzell also collecting two RBI to rank tied for second on the squad.

Game-Changer
-From the third through the fifth innings, Shorter amassed nine runs as the Hawks starting pitcher Taylor Boisclair limited the Chargers to two runs on seven innings to lead SU to the 13-2 win in game two on Friday.

-Dylan Johnston finished with a team-high two RBI in the contest, as he notched a two-run single to center in the bottom of the fourth.
-Seven different Chargers registered base hits, including Garrett Bodine, John Trousdale, Landon Ezzell, Colin Brewer, Zach Duvall, Will Acuff and Johnston.
-Dorien Jenkins drew the squad's lone walk of the contest in a pinch-hitting appearance in the eighth.
-Duvall and Brewer scored one run apiece.
