HUNTSVILLE | The NCAA Division II Softball Committee has released an updated list of teams that are under consideration for the 2021 Softball South Regional, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville continues to be featured among the eight teams announced.
Â
For this year, the committee is not releasing actual rankings at this time, instead just releasing the eight teams that are in the mix for what will be a six-field team.
Â
Members of the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference, and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that are competing this spring make up the South Region.
Â
Five Gulf South Conference schools are among those being considered with Auburn Montgomery, Valdosta State, West Florida, and West Georgia joining the Chargers. Rollins, Saint Leo, and Tampa from the Sunshine State Conference are also named in the list.
Â
This year's regional tournament site is pre-determined due to COVID-19 safety protocols, and Valdosta State will be the host for the regional. Another change for this year includes the reduction of the bracket to six teams and the elimination of the Super Regional round.Â
Â
The NCAA will release an updated list of teams being considered next week.
