OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball staved off elimination in the 2021 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships on Monday evening at Choccolocco Park with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory in the semifinals against Delta State. UAH improves to 22-17, while DSU slips to 26-16.

UAH advances to take on Delta State in an elimination semifinal matchup on Tuesday at 11 a.m., and the winner of that contest will move onto a best-of-three series at West Florida on May 18-20 to decide the 2021 GSC Championship.

Caleb Brewer started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 6.0 innings with three runs allowed – two earned – and five strikeouts. He was handed a no-decision for his effort.

The UAH offense was led by
Garrett Bodine, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs – both solo shots – to go along with one double. He finished with a team-best two runs scored and two RBI.

Delta State went ahead in the top of the second with a solo home run to left by Jake Barlow, and UAH would tie it in the bottom half after an RBI double down the left field line by Duval.

Both sides plated one run apiece in the second inning, with the Chargers scoring on a solo home run in the bottom half by Bodine to make it a 2-2 tie.

The Statesmen pulled back ahead with a single run in the fifth to make it 3-2, and DSU would push its lead to 4-2 with a solo home run by Donovan Shows in the seventh.

Bodine's second solo home run of the day in the bottom half of the seventh slimmed the DSU advantage to 4-3, but the Statesmen regained the two-run lead with a solo homer in the eighth by Blayke Dendy.

The Chargers cut the deficit to one run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth by
Colin Brewer, before scoring two times in the bottom of the ninth on RBI singles by both
John Trousdale and
Tyler McCown for the 6-5 victory.

This was UAH's 19th all-time meeting with Delta State in the GSC postseason.
