PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team staved off elimination at the 2021 NCAA Division II South Regional with a 7-2 victory over sixth-seeded Shorter on Friday afternoon at Jim Spooner Field. UAH improves to 23-19, while SU ends its season at 27-17.

UAH moves on to play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against second-seeded Lee in an elimination game.

Caleb Brewer made his second start of the season on the mound for the Chargers, as the southpaw tossed 3.2 innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts for a no-decision.

Parker Henson was stellar in long relief out of the bullpen, working 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and one run allowed to earn the win and improve to 4-0 in 2021.

The Chargers offense was paced by
Garrett Bodine and
Brett Barbee who both provided one run, three hits, a double and one RBI in the victory.

Freshman
Carson Villalta drove in a game-high two RBI as he went 1-for-4 with one walk.

After scoreless innings by both sides in the first and second inning, UAH put together a five-run rally in the top of the third as
Garrett Bodine,
Landon Ezzell,
Colin Brewer and
Carson Villalta all notched RBI in the frame.

Shorter ended the Chargers shutout bid with a single run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-1 UAH.

UAH added one run apiece in the sixth and seventh innings as
John Trousdale each had RBI single to right in the sixth and seventh, respectively, to extend the lead to 7-1.

A solo home run by Nate Butterworth in the seventh cut UAH's lead to five and would bring the game to its 7-2 finals score.

This is UAH's seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA tournament, and the first NCAA South Regional game against Gulf South Conference foe Shorter. UAH and Shorter faced each other a total of six times in 2021.
