BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly men's cross country award winners, and The No. 11 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's cross country team was represented by Jay Day as GSC Runner of the Week.
 
This is the sixth time Day has been named GSC Runner of the Week in his career.
 
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Day guided the Chargers at the Florida State Open this past Friday with a 38th-place time of 24:59.1, which ranks in the top 25 in program history for fastest times in an eight-kilometer race.
 
Day's performance led UAH to its eighth-place team finish and first amongst competing Division II squads.
 
Day and the rest of the Chargers look ahead to the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 2 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, hosted by Arkansas.
