HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on Tuesday afternoon, dropping an 83-76 decision to visiting Christian Brothers at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers slip to 3-11 (2-7 Gulf South Conference), while CBU improves to 5-11 (4-6 GSC).
Â
Three different Chargers scored in double figures led by
Selena Pruitt's 24 thanks in part to six made 3-pointers, and she also grabbed five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Â
Alexis Woods notched a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while
Holly Harris knocked down three triples to score 12.
Â
A season-best by a Charger,
Miajah Bullock handed out eight assists.
Â
The 24 points for Pruitt were also the most by a UAH player this year, and the double-double for Woods is her third of the campaign.
Â
UAH jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first five and eventually leading by as many as 10 at 15-5 just under four minutes into the game, but the visitors would battle back and eventually go in front 20-19 heading into the second quarter.Â
Â
The Bucs would surge in front by as many as 15 in the stanza before claiming a 49-35 lead at the half.
Â
In the third, CBU scored the first bucket to claim its largest lead of the night at 17, but six straight from the Chargers would allow the hosts to start to narrow the gap, bringing it all the way down to six before the game went into the final period with Christian Brothers up by nine at 65-56.
Â
A bucket from Woods with 5:38 left would pull the Chargers to within four, but the team would not be able to tighten the game further as Christian Brothers secured the 83-76 victory.
Â
UAH shot 42.9 percent for the contest, while the guests connected on 49.1 percent of their tries including going 12-for-24 from beyond the arc. The Chargers outrebounded the Bucs by a 36-32 margin, however, and used a wide 18-6 edge in second-chance points to stay in the game.
Â
The Chargers will now look to bounce back on Saturday when the team visits Auburn Montgomery. Tip-off at AUM is set for 2 p.m.
