UAH Earns 76-62 Road Win Over Rival Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team earned its first Gulf South Conference victory of the season on Thursday and did so in convincing fashion, winning 76-62 at rival Montevallo. The Chargers improve to 2-10 (1-6 GSC), while UM falls to 6-9 (2-5 GSC).

Alexis Woods led the Chargers in the victory as she was an impressive 7-for-8 from the floor to score 21 while also grabbing a team-best nine rebounds and also pacing UAH in both steals and blocks with five and two, respectively.

Two other UAH players scored in double figures as Miajah Bullock went 5-for-8 to score 15 in addition to handing out a team-high six assists, and Jirah Rogers was 6-for-7 with 13 points while also grabbing five boards.

The hosts would hold the advantage for much of the opening quarter but never by more than four points, and a 6-0 run to end the frame would lift the Chargers in front 14-12 going into the second. In that period, the visiting team stayed in front for the entirety, and a 14-0 run would help UAH eventually take a 37-23 lead into the locker room at the break.

UAH would go in front by as many as 18 in the third, but the Falcons would narrow the gap to just eight at 52-44 going into the fourth, allowing them to pull within four on three separate occasions early in the final quarter.

With UAH on top 58-54 at the 7:11 mark of the period, the Chargers would score eight straight to go back in front by double-digits where the lead would remain through to the 76-62 final.

For the contest, UAH shot 49.1 percent including 50.0 percent or better in the final three quarters, and the squad excelled defensively as it held the Falcons to shoot just 29.9 percent including 19.2 percent from beyond the arc.

The Chargers also won the rebounding battle by a 43-35 margin.

UAH dominated the inside game, outscoring Montevallo by a 42-24 margin, and the Blue and White reserves outscored those of the hosts by a 28-9 margin.

The Chargers will now look to carry the momentum from Thursday night's victory into Saturday's road contest at Shorter. Tip-off in Rome, Georgia, is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
