BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly men's cross country award winners on Wednesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Sam Wilhelm as GSC Runner of the Week.
 
This is Wilhelm's second GSC runner of the Week honor of the 2022 campaign.
 
Wilhelm led the Chargers at the 2022 UAH Invitational this past Saturday to a fifth-place team standing, as he posted the fastest 8k time in program history with an eighth-place time of 23:48.0.
 
His time tops the previous record of 24:12.21 set by Jay Day in the 2021 UAH Invitational.
 
Wilhelm and the rest of the nationally-ranked Chargers look ahead to the 2022 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships next Saturday in Montevallo, Alabama.
