HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team topped Shorter on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-11) at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in Gulf South Conference action on Senior Day. UAH improves to 13-15 (7-7 GSC), while SU slides to 15-16 (7-7 GSC).
The Chargers have officially earned a berth to the 2022 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships with today's victory.
Junior
Savannah Rutledge guided the Chargers offense to the five-set victory with a team-high 40 assists and five service aces against the Hawks, as she also notched a double-double with 12 digs on Saturday.

Fellow junior
Gracie McGee also generated a double-double against Shorter with a team-high 12 kills to go along with 12 digs.

Three more Chargers finished with double-digit kills in the contest, including
Kaila Sisk (11),
Caroline Moyer (11) and
Kiara Hill (10). Sisk led the offense with a .625 hitting percentage on Saturday.

Tatiana Bonilla anchored the Blue & White's defense with a team-best 22 digs, followed by
Hailey Holshouser with 14 scoops.

The Chargers defense additionally had eight total blocks on Saturday, led by
Kiara Hill with five total blocks including three solo blocks.

UAH fell behind in the match early on Saturday with Shorter taking the initial set 25-22, despite a late 6-3 run by the Chargers at the end.

The Hawks extended their advantage to 2-0 on a 25-19 win in the second, before the Chargers rebounded to take the third 25-17 with 14 kills in the frame.
UAH won convincingly again in the fourth set 25-18 with a match-high 15 kills to force a fifth set, where the Chargers finished off the 3-2 victory on a 15-11 win in the final stanza.

The Chargers hit the road to wrap up the 2022 regular season with matches at Mississippi College on Thursday at 6 p.m. and West Alabama on Friday at 6 p.m. as well.
