UAH Starts GSC Play with Victory over AUM Saturday at Spragins

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team started off Gulf South Conference play with a 72-56 victory over Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins. UAH improves to 1-3 (1-0 GSC), while AUM slides to 1-3 (0-1 GSC).
 
The Chargers offense featured four players with 10 or more points or more on Saturday, led by Jesse Jennings with a team-high 21 points thanks to a 10-for-11 showing from the free-throw line.
 
Both Andie Flatgard and Haley Nichols contributed double-doubles against the Warhawks, as Flatguard boasted a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with 10 points and Nichols notched 10 points and 10 boards.
 
Flatgard also led UAH with 38 minutes in the victory. Maddie Krieger played the second most minutes with 35 while leading the squad with four assists in a seven-point performance.
 
Olivia Howard had a strong performance for the Chargers as well with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor in addition to grabbing seven rebounds.
 
Overall in the contest, UAH went 22-for-26 on free throws, including a 10-for-11 mark in the first quarter.
 
UAH did not allow a point in the initial 4:29 of play on Saturday, as the Chargers would go on to lead the Warhawks 20-13 at the first-quarter break.
 
The Chargers pushed their lead to as much as 11 in the second quarter, and maintained their advantage throughout the frame to lead 35-30.
 
UAH came out of halftime to shoot its highest field goal percentage of the contest at 46.6 percent (7-for-15) in the third quarter to lead AUM 53-39 heading to the final period of play. The Blue & White went on to outpace the Warhawks 19-17 in the fourth to seal the 72-56 victory on Saturday.
 
This is the first time UAH has started GSC play with a victory since the 2018-19 campaign.
