UAH Cruises Past Shorter in Sunday Victory

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team wrapped up the weekend homestand with a 55-42 victory over visiting Shorter on Sunday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH improves to 2-6 (2-3 GSC), while SU slides to 5-3 (4-1 GSC).
 
The Chargers were led by Haley Nichols with a double-double in the contest, as she owned a team-high 17 rebounds and 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Her 17 rebounds are the most by a UAH player in the 2022-23 campaign.
 
Andie Flatgard joined Nichols in double-digit scoring with 10 points in the matchup with Shorter, as she shot 5-for-10 from the floor to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Flatgard additionally tied with Madie Krieger for a team-high 37 minutes on the floor.
 
A total of nine Chargers scored at least two points in the win over the Hawks on Sunday.
 
UAH led for the majority of the first quarter to lead 18-12 after 10 minutes of action, as the Chargers ended the final 3:54 of the stanza on a 10-4 run. Both sides scored seven points apiece in the second quarter to give UAH a 25-19 lead at the halftime break.
 
The Blue & White pushed its advantage to 45-31 after outpacing Shorter 20-12 in the third quarter, and UAH would maintain its lead in the fourth frame to win 55-42 on Sunday.
 
UAH has now won seven consecutive games over Shorter dating back to the 2017-18 season.
 
The Chargers hit the road for two games in the Magnolia State next weekend with matchups at Delta State on Friday and Mississippi College on Sunday.
