CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team topped Delta State on the road on Friday night by a score of 54-47 in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 3-6 (3-3 GSC), while DSU slides to 4-7 (3-4 GSC).

Haley Nichols dominated for the Chargers with a team-high 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block on Friday night. She went 10-for-14 from the field while not committing a foul over 34 minutes on the court.

Andie Flatgard played a roster-high 38 minutes on Friday while finishing second on the squad with nine points and five rebounds.

UAH shot 44.7 percent (21-47) from the field and 37.5 percent (3-8) from beyond the arc, while limiting DSU to 32.7 percent (18-55) shooting overall on Friday. The Chargers additionally outrebounded the Statesmen 34-24 in the contest.

UAH trailed early to Delta State in the first quarter, but the Blue & White ended the frame on an 8-5 run capped off by a Fleming three-pointer that made it a one-point game at 13-12 in favor of the hosts.

The Chargers climbed out of the deficit with a dominant second quarter that featured a 17-2 run over the last 6:52 to give UAH a 30-20 lead at the half. Nichols posted 12 of her 22 points on the night in the opening half.

UAH maintained its advantage throughout the third quarter, despite DSU winning the frame 15-14 to cut the Chargers lead to 44-35 heading to the fourth. Delta State shaved two more points off UAH's lead in the fourth, but the Chargers would hang on for the 54-47 win on Friday.

This win snaps a three-game losing streak against Delta State.

The Chargers continue their weekend road swing through the Magnolia State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mississippi College.
