Chargers Douse No. 19 Lady Flames at Spragins Hall

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team earned a huge conference victory on Saturday afternoon over a nationally ranked opponent, defeating No. 19 Lee 67-60 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 4-15 (3-11 Gulf South Conference) while the Lady Flames slip to 18-4 (11-3 GSC).

The UAH victory is the second-straight time the Chargers have bested Lee at Spragins Hall with the previous being a 66-60 win on Feb. 26th, 2020 over the then ranked No. 9 Lady Flames.

Alexis Woods was the Chargers leader in both points and rebounds going for her fifth double-double of the season as she posted 18 points and collected 10 boards. The 18 points are her second-highest mark on the year.

Miajah Bullock went 5-for-7 from the field and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe for a 16-point performance and Holly Harris rounded out the double-digit scorers for UAH with 14 points including a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the free-throw line.

The Chargers jumped out to an 8-0 lead to open the contest, but after Lee put together a run of their own to take the lead at 12-11, the first half was a continuously tight affair. Lee – who defeated the Chargers in the previous meeting this season – would hold a 19-18 advantage after the first quarter. UAH would regain the advantage in the second frame after a Bullock layup at the 5:34 mark, and the Chargers would ultimately take a 34-29 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.

UAH would never trail in the third stanza, however the Lady Flames would end up knotting the game at 42-42 with one quarter left to play. The Chargers exchanged blows with Lee in the first half of the closing period before pulling away to hold their largest lead of the night, a 10-point margin at 61-51, with less than a minute left to play en route to securing the 67-60 victory.

The Blue & White finished the contest shooting 46.5 percent while holding the guests to a 40.7 percent shooting mark, and UAH built up an impressive 42-21 edge in rebounds.

The Chargers also made their trips to the line count, making 25 free-throws on the night which matches the season high UAH previously accomplished against Shorter on Jan. 8 of this season.

UAH will now have one day of rest before traveling to Montgomery, Ala. to take on the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery on Monday evening.

Monday's contest in Montgomery is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
