CARROLLTON, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team picked up another road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating West Georgia 77-72. The Chargers improve to 6-16 (5-12 Gulf South Conference) while the Wolves fall to 9-13 (6-11 GSC).
Holly Harris put up a season-high and team-leading 24 points in the contest after going 8-for-12 from the field including four three-pointers while
Miajah Bullock and
Selena Pruitt each scored 12 for the Chargers. Harris and Bullock have each scored 1,000 points or more in their collegiate careers.
Alexis Woods recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a team-best 14 rebounds.
West Georgia held a 25-22 advantage after the initial stanza but a pair of field goals from Pruitt and a triple from Harris in the last 2:39 of the first half gave the Chargers the lead going into the locker room at the halftime break up 41-36.
UAH would lead the first eight minutes of the third until UWG would take the lead after Siera Carter would make a pair of free-throws to put the Wolves up by two with one quarter left. A 13-2 run by the Chargers to open the final frame gave them the lead back, going up by as many as nine, and they would not surrender the advantage for the rest of the game en route to picking up the 77-72 victory.
For the contest, UAH hit 53.7 percent of its attempts from the floor while holding West Georgia to a 34.8 percent shooting performance. The Wolves would win the rebounding battle, edging out the Chargers 43-34 in that category.
Carter led the way for UWG with 15 points for the Wolves.
UAH will now turn its attention to Mississippi College as the Choctaws will pay a visit to the Rocket City on Thursday night.
