Chargers Drop Road Contest at Saint Leo

ST. LEO, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse fell on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 16-14 decision to host Saint Leo to wrap up its weekend road trip to the Sunshine State. UAH slips to 3-2, while Saint Leo improves to 2-1.

Kyle Light led the Chargers offensively on the day, scoring three times after firing off a team-high eight shots of which seven were on target.

A trio of Chargers – Bryce Ferraro, Jake LeVette, and Will Ford – all scored twice in the contest; Ian Arnt and Brody Phillips scored and picked up an assist; and both Josh Campbell and Jake Scrhamm had a pair of helpers.

Hunter Coleman, Reid Vender, and Jacob Thomas each scored a goal, and Brayden O'Neil tallied an assist.

Zak Welsh made 12 saves in goal in the setback.

The first half was kind to the Chargers as Light gave the team an early lead less than a minute into the contest, and Ford and LeVette would add goals in the first to give the Chargers a 3-2 edge after one.

Three more goals – from Arnt, Ferraro, and LeVette – in the second would produce a 6-3 difference at the half in favor of the guests.

The Lions then erupted for nine goals in the third quarter, including eight straight at one point, to go in front 12-9 heading into the final period, and though UAH would outscore the hosts 5-4 in the frame, Saint Leo would ultimately hang on for the victory.

Saint Leo finished the contest outshooting the Chargers by a 46-33 margin with the on-target differential being 30-23 tilted towards the Lions.

The Lions picked up 32 groundballs, holding a slim advantage over UAH's 31, and Coleman paced the Chargers with six.

Collin Galinski picked up five groundballs in the contest, and he caused a team-high two turnovers.

The Chargers will now turn their attention to next weekend when they continue non-conference play with a trip to Tusculum. That contest is slated for a 12 p.m. CT start on Saturday.
