HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team started off the 2022 campaign with a pair of losses to Carson-Newman at Charger Park by scores of 9-7 and 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in nonconference action. UAH slips to 0-2, while C-N rises to 3-0.

C-N 9, UAH 7
The opening game to the 2022 season was a back-and-forth battle between the Chargers and Eagles, with Carson-Newman winning the contest 9-7 thanks to a three-run rally to overtake the UAH lead.

The Chargers offense totaled 14 base hits, as a total of four players had multi-hit performances in the contest led by
Jackson Lindsey and
Daniel McCary with three hits apiece.

McCary drove in a team-high two runs, while
Carson Villalta scored a roster-leading two runs in a 1-for-4 day at the plate with a walk.

UAH had two extra-base hits in the loss with Lindsey notching one amongst his three hits and
Garrett Bodine posting one two-bagger in a 2-for-4 performance.

Kody Keiser started on the mound for the Chargers, working 3.2 innings with three unearned runs and two strikeouts.
Jake Christa was strong in long relief as he tossed 4.0 innings with one earned run allowed and two strikeouts.

Will Griffith incurred the loss to drop his season record to 0-1, after tossing one-third of an inning with one strikeout and two earned runs.

C-N 9, UAH 6
Carson-Newman started off the contest with a five-run rally in the top of the first, which along with two, two-run innings in the third and fifth helped the Eagles to the 9-6 win in game two on Saturday.

The Chargers registered eight total hits in the nightcap of the doubleheader, as Bodine,
Landon Ezzell and
Dylan Johnston had two base hits apiece to lead the way.

Ezzell had the lone extra-base hit for the Chargers, which was a solo home run to left in the bottom of the fourth. This was the first homer by the Chargers in 2022.

Tyler Self started on the mound for the Chargers, posting 4.0 innings with seven runs allowed – two earned – and five strikeouts. He took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year.

Collin Hollingsworth,
Aubry Cleghorn and
Will Hotalen were strong out of the bullpen late in the game with the trio combining for 2.2 scoreless innings with two hits allowed.
