UAH Throttles LMU 16-3 to Open New Campaign

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team fired on all cylinders from the start on Saturday, starting the new campaign with a decisive 16-3 victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial at Charger Park. UAH starts the year at 1-0, while LMU begins the season at 0-1.

Eight different Chargers scored in the contest, led by Bryce Ferraro who fired off 16 shots of which eight were on target and of which four were good for goals, and the sophomore added an assist to finish with a team-high five points.

For Ferraro, the four goals give him one more than his season total of three from his debut season last year.

Josh Campbell scored three times in the game and also added an assist to total four points, while Ian Arnt scored a goal and picked up two helpers to log a three-point showing.

This was Campbell's 10th multi-goal game.

Each of Connor Young, Kyle Light, and Jake Schramm scored a pair, and Reid Vender scored and assisted on another to record a pair of points.

Richie Mohr rounded out UAH's scorers with a goal.

It was Mohr who started the scoring, needing only seven seconds to earn the first tally of the season for the Chargers, and Ferraro would get his first of the day in the same opening minute of the contest as UAH would ultimately outscore LMU 6-0 in the first quarter.

Arnt scored for the home team in the first minute of the second period, and the Chargers would score three more times after Lincoln Memorial earned its first of the game, creating a 10-1 score at the half.

All of Campbell's goals came in the second half of the contest including UAH's third straight in the first minute of a quarter to start the third stanza, and the Chargers would hold a 14-2 lead through three before scoring two of the three goals in the fourth to create the 16-3 final.

UAH finished the game with a wide 58-20 difference in shots including a 34-7 edge in shots on goal, and the Chargers totaled 47 ground balls compared to 28 for LMU.

Joseph Stuber had a team-best – and career-high – eight ground balls to lead the hosts, Will Kastel had four caused turnovers, and Zak Welsh recorded four saves in goal.

UAH will return to action on Wednesday, staying at home to welcome Colorado Mesa to the Rocket City. That contest is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
