HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader against Florida Southern on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park to wrap up the three-game series, as the Moccasins won game one 9-5 before the Chargers took game two 7-2. UAH moves to 7-15, while FSC is now 13-10.

UAH looks ahead to another nonconference matchup on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at nearby Tennessee Southern.

Florida Southern 9, UAH 5
The Moccasins four-run seventh inning broke open the tightly contested first game of the doubleheader as FSC would go on to take the contest 9-5.

UAH's offense boasted eight hits against Florida Southern, as
Carson Villalta and
Will Noles led the way with two base hits apiece.

Landon Ezzell registered his fifth home run of the season with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, while
Jackson Lindsey,
Daniel McCary and Noles each notched a double to give the Chargers four extra-base hits total.

Connor Brooks made his fifth start on the mound for the Chargers, as he totaled 3.1 innings pitched with one earned run allowed and three strikeouts. His record slips to 2-3 with the loss.

Will Hotalen kept the Chargers within striking distance in his relief outing, notching 5.1 innings and four runs allowed. He additionally had a season-high seven strikeouts.

UAH 7, Florida Southern 2
The Chargers staved off a series sweep at the hands of the Mocs, as the Blue & White scored its most runs of the weekend and were backed by a strong starting pitching performance by
Tyler Self for the 7-2 win.

Self made his fifth start on the mound this season, and he posted a complete game with 7.0 innings pitched with one earned run allowed, zero walks and 11 strikeouts. He improves to 2-2 with the victory.

This is the fourth time in his career Self has struck out 10 or more batters.

The Chargers offense registered eight base hits by eight different players, led by Ezzell and
Mitchell Rottier with one base hit and two RBI apiece.

Daniel McCary notched doubles to give UAH three extra-base hits, as Ezzell's was a two-run home run.

Cole Turner scored a team-high two runs.

Both sides would score twice in the first inning, with the Chargers runs scoring on a two-run home run by Ezzell which was his sixth round-tripper of the season and third of the series.

UAH went on to score once in the second before a four-run eruption in the third – highlighted by a two-RBI single by Rottier – that extended the lead to 7-2. The 7-2 lead would stand as the game's final score.
