UAH Opens 2022 Outdoor Campaign at Lee Invitational

RESULTS

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's track & field teams opened up the 2022 outdoor campaign at the Lee Invitational on Saturday.
 
Men's Notables
-The Chargers 100 meter-relay squad of Wilson McClain, Grayson Russell, Michael Gizzi and Cameron Clark broke the NCAA provisional time in the event with a second-place time of 40.80.
-Zach Hancock had a stellar opening to the outdoor campaign with a first-place discus throw of 55.12 meters, which breaks the NCAA provisional standard of 50.45.
-Gizzi nearly achieved the NCAA provisional mark of 21.26 in 200 meters as he placed third in the event at 21.30.
-Baker Schell contributed a first-place time of 57.96 in 400-meter hurdles, and he was followed by teammates Bobby Stanberry in second at 58.17 and Colin Chirwacho in third at 59.05.
-Evans Wright won the hammer throw at 51.78 meters, as he was closely followed by teammate Justin Bensinger in second at 51.51 meters.
-James Cain posted a second-place time of 9:49.84 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
-Garrison Hill led the way in the pole vault with a first-place height of 4.50 meters.
- Stephen Tanner took second in the shot put at 14.67 meters.
 
Women's Notables
-Zakiria Holifield notched first place in two events on Saturday, including the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.01 and the 200-meter sprint with a time of 24.86.
-UAH had the top two times in the women's 100-meter dash with Krystalynn Oatman finishing a hair behind Holifield at 12.01.
-Ronni VanZant notched a second-place time of 1:04.71 in 400-meter hurdles.
-UAH's 100-meter relay team of Holifield, VanZant, Oatman and Chandler Robinson clocked in at 47.21 for first place.
- Emee Baldwin collected second place in the pole vault at 3.30 meters.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will split up its squad to compete next weekend, as the Chargers travel to both the NC State – Raleigh Relays and the Ole Miss Classic.
