UAH Falls in Slugfest at AUM in Series Finale

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped the series finale 17-13 at Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH slips to 9-17 (3-8 GSC), while AUM improves to 17-10 (7-5 GSC).

The Chargers had six players post multi-hit performances on Sunday as the squad recorded 15 base hits as a team. Jeff Hunter led the way in hits with a 3-for-5 day at the plate included one double.

Both of Mitchell Rotter's base knocks went for doubles, with one of his two-baggers driving in two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Landon Ezzell recorded a team-high five RBI in a 2-for-6 performance, as the Russellville, Alabama, native registered a three-run homer in the third and a two-RBI single in the fifth.

Ezzell's home run was his team-leading seventh round-tripper of the season.

Austin Reed, Carson Villalta, and Dylan Johnston each added two base hits apiece, with Villalta notching a two-RBI triple as one of his two hits.

Kody Keiser started on the mound for the Chargers, and the southpaw turned in 2.1 innings with three earned runs.

Tanner Giles took the loss in relief to drop his season record to 0-1, as he worked 2.1 innings with three runs allowed and one strikeout.

After a scoreless first inning, Auburn Montgomery went ahead with two runs in the second before UAH's five-run eruption in the third – highlighted by Ezzell's three-run homer – to overtake the hosts 5-2.

The Warhawks put together a six-run rally in the bottom half of the third to turn the tables, but UAH again would rally for five runs in the fifth to take a 10-8 lead.

AUM again battled back in the bottom half of the fifth with four runs to lead 12-10, with UAH knotting the game with two more runs in the top of the sixth off Rottier's game-tying two-RBI double.

Auburn Montgomery regained the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to go along with two insurance runs in the eighth to complete the 17-13 win.

The 30 runs scored total between UAH and Auburn Montgomery are the most in a single game in the all-time series that dates back to 1996.

UAH returns home on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup with Tennessee Southern at Charger Park.
