UAH Wins Series at Lee with Doubleheader Split Saturday

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team picked up the Gulf South Conference series win at Lee with a doubleheader split on Saturday, as the Chargers won game one 10-8 before falling in the second 3-0. UAH's record is now 12-18 (5-9 GSC), while LU sits at 13-17 (7-10 GSC).
 
UAH returns to action on Wednesday with a nonconference tilt at Carson-Newman with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch.

The Chargers offense was active early with three runs in the second, two runs in the third and four runs in the fourth which carried the Blue & White to the 10-8 win in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Jeff Hunter led the Chargers offense in the victory, as he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, four RBI, two home runs and a double. He is the first Charger to post two homers in a GSC game this season.
 
Jackson Lindsey tied with Hunter for the team lead in hits with a 3-for-5 performance as well with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Garrett Bodine, Dylan Johnston and Austin Reed each posted two base hits and one RBI to help UAH to the win.
 
Connor Brooks started on the mound for the Chargers, and he turned in 4.0 innings with five runs allowed and two strikeouts for a no-decision.
 
Kody Keiser picked up the win in relief to improve to 2-4 this season, after working 2.0 innings with zero earned runs allowed and two strikeouts out of the bullpen.
 
Tanner Giles notched his first save in 2022, tossing the final 1.1 innings with no runs allowed, zero walks and one strikeout.

Tyler Self became UAH baseball's career strikeout leader in game two on Saturday, as his second strikeout of the afternoon gave him 246 in his career to break the record of 245 set by Adam Bass from 2001-03.
 
He finished Saturday's game with five strikeouts to give him 249 in his career, as he's now 20 strikeouts away from ranking in the top 10 in GSC history.
 
Lee took the lead early with three runs in the first, and the Flames would add to that lead with a seven-run outburst in the fourth and one run in the fifth to bring the game to its 11-0 final score.
 
The Chargers offense recorded six base hits against the Flames in the nightcap, with Mitchell Rottier recording a team-high two hits.
 
Self took the loss in the contest to slip his record to 2-4, as he finished with 3.1 innings, eight runs allowed, zero walks and five strikeouts.
 
Will Griffith worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen with one strikeout to lead the Chargers relievers in the game.
